TESCO, a British-based international grocery and general merchandising retail chain, has opened two stores in Guangzhou.

The first branch is situated on Guangzhou Dadao Bei, with a total area of 44,080 square meters.

In addition to the first store in Tianhe district, a new store built in Yuexiu district will be TESCO’s 60th store in China and its first “energy-saving” location.

The energy-saving store, covering an area of over 13,000 square meters, is to be built with sophisticated energy management systems to optimize energy consumption.

The store offers customers over 20,000 types of imported products, including 415 products labeled with its own “TESCO Value” and “TESCO Standard” brands.

TESCO currently has seven stores in South China, including Shenzhen, Dongguan and Guangzhou. The total number of stores in China is now over 60, with locations in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Shenyang and so on.

Founded in 1919, TESCO ranked the world’s third largest retailer in 2008. TESCO’s British stores are divided into six formats: Extra stores, Superstores, Metro stores, Express stores, One-stop stores and Home plus. All stores in China are Extra stores.
